Vice President Dr. Bawumia was the Guest of Honour at the launch of the ‘Mobile Money Interoperability Phase Two’.
The first phase of the mobile money interoperability project saw the interconnection of the mobile money platforms and the Ghana National Switch (gh-link system).
The second phase will allow customers to move funds across all three platforms: bank accounts, mobile money wallets, and the e-zwich payment systems. This will remove the constraints customers face in trying to move funds around, in real time.
The completion of phase 2 makes Ghana the leading country in Africa and one of the few in the world with universal mobile money interoperability.
Vice President Dr. Bawumia congratulated the team from the Ministry of Communications, the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS), Telcos, Bank of Ghana, Fintechs, financial institutions and other partners that worked on the two phases.
Vice President Dr. Bawumia also challenged them to make it possible for an operator, agent or merchant with one (1) phone and SIM, to be able to load electronic funds onto the wallet of a customer regardless of the network.
“I am confident that they will deliver, as we work to make e-payments a part of our daily lives” he added.
